BIOGRAPHY

I
was born in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York on August
14, 1942. My father was in the Army Air Force at the
time and shipped out to North Africa once we had established
an air base in present day Libya. My early years were
spent on Long Island living near my grandfather’s
farm.
Once
WWII ended my life as an Army ‘brat’ began.
I started school in Virginia. They didn’t have
kindergarten at that time and I began first grade just
a few weeks after turning five years old. I was forever
a year younger than my classmates wherever I went after
that. Besides Virginia, I remember going to schools
in New York, Texas and California before moving to Kaiserslautern,
Germany and being in the fifth grade in the Army school
there. We returned to the states and California in 1954.
We moved around California several times and I attended
schools in San Pedro, Carlsbad, and Oceanside. I attended
Oceanside-Carlsbad High School and dropped out at the
beginning of my senior year.
The
following August I turned seventeen and joined the Army.
With the exception of a three month break in 1962 I
stayed in the Army until August, 1980, retiring as a
Command Sergeant Major.
I
entered the civilian work world in 1982 armed with an
AS Degree in Electronic Technology and a Bachelor of
Arts Degree in Economics and Business Administration.
I worked in the electronic industry in Florida and Alabama
until retiring in May 2001. The last dozen years or
so were spent as a Quality Manager.
I’ve
always had an interest in writing. The first inkling
that I might have a tiny bit of talent came in high
school when my English teacher accused me of plagiarism
for a short science fiction story. During my Army career
I enjoyed writing everything from citations to monthly
operations reports from the combat zone to personnel
evaluations to articles and reports for organizational
requirements. I actually enjoyed writing term papers
in college, never getting anything less than an ‘A’.
Since
retiring in 2001 my writing focused on organizational
newsletter articles and fiction. First I wrote a political
novel titled The Second American Revolution
that never went to print because the publisher went
out of business literally days before the publication
date. Although my intentions were to rewrite it, it
was my first book and needed to be rewritten, I never
completed that task. Perhaps I will one day. My next
book was actually published, but not for long. It was
an erotic romance titled In the Arms Of
A Warrior. Once again, the publisher folded, this
time after I had a successful book signing and was generating
sales on amazon.com. That book will eventually be available
again on amazon.com. I also have an erotic romance short
story available from Whiskey Creek Press Torrid titled
Coming Back a Virgin. A word of warning here,
erotic means explicit sex. If you’re offended
by that, erotic romance is not for you.
I
wrote The Red Dragon in 2006. I think it’s
my best book. I thought writing a war novel would be
easy, it wasn’t. Although I had participated in
many combat operations, I hadn’t planned them,
nor did I have a sense of what else was taking place
on the battlefield besides what was happening in my
immediate vicinity. That, plus presenting the antagonist’s
side of the story, required a lot of research on my
part. The story is not autobiographical in any sense.
There are bits and pieces of actual events woven into
the story but the overall theme is fiction.
Since
1989 I have lived in northern Alabama with my lovely
wife. For the last three plus years we have homeschooled
our oldest granddaughter and started homeschooling the
youngest this year. They keep us busy.
